What makes a headshot read as professional

Six choices, made consciously during the shoot rather than fixed in post: direction so you don't have to guess what to do with your hands; lighting that flatters without flattening; a background that contrasts your skin and wardrobe without competing; a crop that survives circular avatars and bigger editorial layouts; an expression that reads as confident and approachable rather than posed; and natural retouching that keeps your face yours.

Choose the session format that fits

Quick fits a focused profile update — one outfit, one background, around 30 minutes, two retouched finals. Standard is the most common choice for professionals updating LinkedIn, a company bio, and a press image in the same session — up to two outfits and two backgrounds, one hour, four retouched finals. Plus extends the session to two hours with up to four outfits and three backgrounds, plus the option to shoot in studio or on location when the images need to land across press, speaker pages, executive bios, and public-facing work. If you're undecided between studio and on-location, see studio and on-location headshots in Los Angeles.

How a session runs

Direction across every step — planning, shooting, selecting, retouching, and delivery — so you aren't guessing what to do with your hands at any point and the final files match how the images will actually be used.

  1. Plan

Confirm look, format, and timing; share use cases so the shoot maps to real channels.

  2. Shoot

Guided session with live direction across wardrobe changes and look adjustments.

  3. Select

Review proofs in your private gallery and choose your retouched finals.

  4. Retouch

Natural retouching that keeps real skin texture and recognizable features.

  5. Deliver

Final files with unlimited usage rights across every channel you publish in.

Guided posing during the shoot

Almost nobody enjoys having their picture taken. The Headshot Buro session is directed live — small adjustments to angle, posture, expression, and where your eyes are pointed, called out frame by frame. That removes the guesswork that makes most headshots feel stiff, and it shortens the awkward warm-up period from twenty minutes to two.

Natural retouching and usage-ready files

We keep skin texture, real expression, and recognizable features. Stray hairs, temporary blemishes, and obvious wardrobe distractions go; the face that walks in is the face that ships. Each retouched final is delivered at sizes that work for a square LinkedIn avatar, a vertical bio portrait, and a wider editorial crop, with unlimited usage rights so the same image runs everywhere without re-licensing.

Common questions

How long does a professional headshot session take?

The Quick session is about 30 minutes with one outfit and one backdrop — enough for a clean profile photo. The Standard runs an hour with two outfits and two backdrops, which is the most common choice for professionals updating LinkedIn, a bio page, and a press image at once. The Plus session takes about two hours and adds more outfits, more backdrops, and the option to shoot on location. The full inclusions are on the pricing cards above.

What should I wear for professional headshots?

Bring two to four options that fit the contexts you'll use the images in — typically a jacket or structured layer plus a cleaner shirt or knit underneath. Avoid loud patterns, slogans, and brand-new items that haven't been worn. Stick with colors that read well on a white or mid-tone background. We send a short prep note after booking with examples, and we direct small adjustments live during the shoot.

Can I use the same image for LinkedIn and company bios?

Yes — every delivered file comes with unlimited usage rights, so the same image can run on LinkedIn, your company's About page, speaker bios, press requests, and personal sites without re-licensing. We crop and deliver each retouched final at sizes that work for square avatars, vertical portraits, and wider editorial layouts so you don't have to ask a designer to re-crop for each channel.

How many final images will I receive?

The Quick delivers two retouched finals from 15 color-corrected selects. The Standard delivers four finals from 30 selects. The Plus delivers eight finals from 50 selects. You choose your finals from the private gallery after the shoot, and we retouch only the ones you select. Additional retouching beyond the package count can be added after inquiry — we don't change the package data.

How natural is the retouching?

Light. We keep your skin texture, real expression, and recognizable features. Stray hairs, temporary blemishes, and obvious distractions go; the face that walks in is the face that ships. Editorial-level retouching is available on the Plus session and on personal branding shoots. If you have a particular preference — minimal, polished, or editorial — flag it on the form and we'll calibrate before the gallery is delivered.
